Project Plan:
Improving Process Efficiency
For Educational Technology Project Management, I developed a project plan to resolve inefficiencies in a vendor solicitation process at my workplace.
Vendor Procurement
Standardized assessments must be as accessible as possible, to the widest group of students. Part of this charge is to translate items written in English to alternate languages and representations, to ensure students can access tests in their preferred mode of communication.
The process to solicit highly-skilled vendors for fast, accurate translation services can be difficult to navigate, especially when little to no specific documentation exists to capture the details of each step in the workflow. The goal of this project was to build a project plan that captured the budget, costs, schedule, risks, and key quality indicators for a hypothetical project to deliver a process document that would solve this issue.
I developed the project schedule in Smartsheet, using the dependencies feature to show the workflow connections between the key deliverables.
Program objectives
This project meets JMU M.Ed objective 4, as it required that I investigate and apply project management best practices to estimate time, budget, and scope for a project within the realm of educational technology — implying that the processes involved in the project would fit within the ADDIE or SAM frameworks. This project also meets objective 5, to initiate, lead, and facilitate for change and innovation. Enacting process change at any large organization is difficult and slow; I believe my strategy is not just achievable given its scope and scale but also worth.
